Our last blog was about whether or not you should paint your own kitchen cabinets. Regardless of if you decided to do it yourself or hire someone else, you’re now stuck with the daunting dilemma…“what color should I paint my kitchen cabinets?” If you’re anything like me, you’re a little tired of all the traditional whites and grays. Lucky for you, I’ve gathered three different kitchen cabinet colors that are a little out of the ordinary—but still aesthetic.

Rookwood Dark Red (SW 2801)

I’ve talked about red being overlooked in home projects before, and this moody hue is no different. Sherwin Williams’ Rookwood Dark Red is the perfect statement color to liven up your kitchen cabinets. Since this beautiful color is on the darker side, I recommend using it in a smaller kitchen to prevent it from being overwhelming. Rookwood Dark Red pairs well with blushes, creams, and gold or bronze accents. A truly versatile color that brings an air of sophistication into any room!

Stardew (SW 9138)

The color blue is usually associated with feelings of serenity and peace. If you’re all about staying Zen and keeping your headspace centered, Stardew by Sherwin Williams is the shade for you. It’s the perfect tone to add a pop of color to your kitchen cabinets and works in all different styles of the home. This dusty blue goes well with natural wood, white, and black accents. Stardew is the perfect shade for your kitchen cabinets if you’re looking to bring some tranquility into your home.

Succulent (SW 9650)

Green kitchen cabinets have taken off in the last couple of years. A lot of people are tired of the “traditional” kitchen look with wood or white kitchen cabinets. Green is a color that’s not too daunting like yellow or red, but more interesting than cream or gray. This Sherwin Williams’ color, Succulent, is a perfect shade for a more modern farmhouse style kitchen. It works well with darker woods, neutral colors, and gold accents. If adding a splash of color to your kitchen intrigues but scares you a little bit, I highly recommend this earthy, rich green!

Everyone wants an aesthetically pleasing home, but white, gray, and wood just aren’t cutting it anymore. Whether you choose to hire someone to paint your kitchen cabinets or you do it yourself, don’t think that you have to do what everyone else is doing. Colors can be just as aesthetic as neutrals; you just have to do it right.
