Oil based and Acrylic Wood Stains
Oil based, acrylic, semi-transparent, solid stain, natural oil stain, and other wood coatings are common coatings that we use. We are fans of Sherwin Williams Superdeck and Woodscapes lines. These coatings offer an economical and durable coating for most wood projects.
These products can be made in almost any color you can dream of and come in 1 or 2 coat systems. You can expect to see between 2-5 years from these products depending on opacity (transparent will need recoating the soonest & solid stains will last the longest). While some of these common finishes do penetrate into the wood substrate, they mostly rely on forming a surface film like paint. This is predictable when choosing colors and for coating the substrate, however, all surface film coatings will eventually chip leading to sanding & stripping of the wood before re-applying the coating.
CUTEK
CUTEK Extreme is an Australian oil that is suitable for many exterior wood applications such as pressure treated wood, exotic woods (IPE, Teak, Garapa, Mahogany), and many others. Please contact our team for specific information about your substrate (material being treated).
Unlike other coatings that sit on top of the wood, this product protects from the inside out by penetrating deep into the substrate to stabilize the wood while still highlighting the natural beauty of the wood. After we apply the initial 2 coats, it remains active which helps to conceal any blemishes or scratches…pretty amazing stuff! You can actually watch the stain absorb into the wood over the recommended 24+ hour recoat time.
One of the best reasons to use Cutek is a simple one: no need to sand or strip, ever…just clean and apply a maintenance coat. No flaking or peeling ever…guaranteed! Recoating it is so easy you can DIY or call us back in a few years. On average, we have found this product to last for 4-5 years with direct sun exposures.
