Professional Kitchen Cabinet Painting in Charlotte, NC

A Fresh Look Without a Full Remodel

Transform dated cabinets with a smooth, durable finish
designed for the demands of a working kitchen.

Your kitchen cabinets occupy more visual space than almost anything else in the room. When the color or finish feels dated, the entire kitchen can feel tired—even when the cabinet boxes, doors, and layout are still in good condition.

DeHaan Painting provides professional kitchen cabinet painting and refinishing for homeowners throughout Charlotte and the surrounding area. We carefully prepare, prime, and spray cabinet doors, drawer fronts, frames, and exposed surfaces to create a smooth, furniture-quality finish that looks refined and withstands everyday use.

This is not simply a matter of applying another coat of paint. Kitchen cabinets collect grease, cooking residue, moisture, and years of wear. Without proper cleaning, sanding, adhesion testing, priming, and cabinet-grade coatings, a newly painted finish can begin scratching, chipping, or peeling far sooner than expected.

Our cabinet refinishing process is designed to address those risks from the beginning. We protect your kitchen, remove and label doors and hardware, prepare each surface for proper adhesion, and apply a durable sprayed finish with close attention to edges, corners, profiles, and other areas where rushed cabinet projects often fail.

For many Charlotte homeowners, professional cabinet painting provides the dramatic change they want without the expense, construction, and disruption of replacing otherwise sound cabinetry. Whether you are brightening dark wood cabinets, modernizing builder-grade finishes, updating an oak kitchen, or introducing a contrasting island color, DeHaan Painting can help you create a kitchen that feels completely renewed.

A Cabinet Finish Should Look Beautiful—and Hold Up to Daily Life

Cabinet painting requires a different process than painting walls, ceilings, or trim. The finish must withstand frequent touching, cleaning, heat, moisture, and the everyday impacts that occur in a busy kitchen. That is why DeHaan approaches cabinet refinishing as a specialized service rather than treating it as another interior painting project.

Our goal is not merely to make your cabinets look good on the day the project is completed. We want the preparation, coating system, and application method to work together so the finish remains smooth, attractive, and easy to maintain.

See What Professional Cabinet Painting Can Change

A lighter, professionally applied finish can completely reshape the look and feel of a kitchen while preserving the cabinets you already have.

Updating your Kitchen Cabinets

From Dark and Dated to Bright and Timeless

Dark wood cabinets were once a popular kitchen choice, but they can make the room feel smaller, heavier, and less inviting—especially when the cabinetry is still structurally sound but the finish no longer suits the home.

Professional cabinet painting can completely change that impression. Lighter finishes reflect more natural light, soften the overall appearance of the room, and help countertops, backsplashes, flooring, and hardware feel more coordinated.

Whites, warm neutrals, soft grays, and carefully chosen accent colors remain popular throughout Charlotte because they create a cleaner, more current kitchen without requiring a complete cabinet replacement.

Kitchen Cabinet Painting Process

Kitchen Cabinet Painting Process

Process begins by removing all cabinet doors

1. Remove All Cabinet Doors And Drawers

The first step in the kitchen cabinet repaint process is to remove all cabinet doors and drawers.

This helps to keep the end product as clean and well-painted as possible.

Your cabinets deserve to be perfect so we take extra time to ensure that it’s done right.

We’ll also protect any nearby appliances so they’re safe from paint.

2. Cabinet Cleaning And Sanding

We believe your cabinets should be done the right way, not the easy way.

So when we take off the doors and drawers, we’ll first clean and degrease the cabinets. This includes doors, drawers, and the boxes still attached to the wall.

Your cabinets will go through a thorough cleaning as they are frequently exposed to the effects of cooking. Once they are clean we’ll sand all pieces of the cabinet to ensure it has a perfect finish.

3. Kitchen Cabinet Painting

Once the doors, drawers, and kitchen cabinet boxes are clean and smooth we’ll get onto the next step: painting the cabinets.

The goal of the kitchen cabinet painting is to give it a factory-finish look. In other words, we want to make it look like they didn’t go through a repainting.

When we paint the doors and drawers, we place them in stands so that the paint can dry evenly and are not subject to getting dust on them. If anyone skips this step the cabinets run the risk of forever having dust or debris in their paint.

4. Reassemble The Doors And Drawers

Finally, we reattach the door and drawers to the kitchen cabinet boxes.

Due to the disassembling of everything, the hinges, knobs, and everything not a cabinet will be completely free of paint, leaving you with a professional looking set of cabinets.

Your “new” kitchen is now ready for you to invite some friends and family members over to see how it feels.

Cabinet Door Replacement, Repair & Refinishing in Charlotte, NC

When cabinet frames are solid and the existing kitchen layout still works, replacing the doors and drawer fronts can create an entirely new appearance without removing all of the cabinetry.

DeHaan Painting can replace a single damaged cabinet door or update an entire kitchen with new doors and drawer fronts. This can be an especially practical solution for older, well-built cabinets that are worth preserving but no longer match the style of the home.

New cabinet doors can also be combined with professional cabinet refinishing to create a consistent finish across the doors, drawers, cabinet frames, and exposed surfaces. The result is a cleaner, more modern kitchen with considerably less disruption than complete cabinet replacement.

When a project requires structural modification, custom cabinetry, or more extensive replacement, DeHaan Painting works with Albritton Custom Carpentry, a custom cabinet maker serving the greater Charlotte area since 2004.

What Our Customers Say

“…I asked for cabinet painter recommendations on the Plaza Midwood page and Matt from DeHaan Painting reached out. Matt patiently answered my questions (and I had a lot!) and had a substantial online presence, so I could check out before/after photos and read client reviews.

What sold me was he was extremely detailed about what type of paint he used, how he would prep the cabinets and what I could expect. No one else went into that much detail. I found him very responsive, endlessly patient and extremely knowledgeable

-Hallie Hoffman

“We wanted our cabinets painted, but not JUST painted. We provided Matt a door sample from a line of cabinets we would have liked to purchase but the cost was simply too high. He took on the challenge and created a sample to show us what he could do. It was perfect.

…Throughout the process, all of his employees were courteous, pleasant to be around (fun actually), they cleaned up after themselves, and made what could have been a difficult process – particularly right before the holidays – as easy as it could be…  These are pros – artists really – and you pay for top quality like their work.”
